Universal
Light Meter 775 & 775-D This new unit measures temperature
(in Centigrade or Fahrenheit), thermal radiation (IR), visible light (lux) and ultraviolet light (UV). The IR measurement
allows the user to determine the amount of solar light coming into an area
via windows, to determine the amount of heat lights are exposing items to, or
to check the efficiency of heat reflecting films. The IR measurement is given
in W/M2 or
btu/hour/ft2. Visible light measurements are displayed as lux or footcandles. Ultraviolet
light is widely recognized to be a major cause of damage to museum objects.
UV measurements can be taken of the proportion of UV light present (μW/lumen) or the total amount of UV (mW/M2). Using the data-logging option, over 10,000
readings of all four parameters in intervals ranging from 10 seconds to one
hour may be taken and subsequently downloaded to a computer via a wireless
infra-red link (IrDA compatible). For computers without the infra-red
interface built in, adapters are available. A built-in clock allows the 775
to turn on and off between readings. The 775 is easy to use; simply push the
appropriately marked button and a reading is taken. Including the IR/
temperature probe, the 775 measures approximately 6 x 2-1/2 x 1 in. and
weighs a mere 5.6 ounces. Two versions are offered, a non- logging 775 and a
data logging model. |
